Update on our blog published in April 2014 Are you a food producer? If so, did you know that on the 13th December 2014, new labelling legislation rules came into force.  These rules basically mean that any food that is pre-packed, sold loose or served when eating out, must list all of the 14 main allergens if they are present. These are:

  • Cereals containing gluten, such as, wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt of khorasan (oriental wheat)
  • Crustaceans for example, prawns, crabs, lobster & crayfish
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Peanuts
  • Soybeans
  • Milk
  • Nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecan nuts, brazil nuts, pistachio nuts, macadamia (or Queensland) nuts
  • Celery (including celeriac)
  • Mustard
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Sulphur Dioxide (>10mg/kg or 10mg/L)
  • Lupin
  • Mollusc for example, clams, mussels, whelks, oysters, snails and squid

Companies should seek their own advice as appropriate

Original Blog The Food Information to Consumers Regulation (FIR) has introduced new rules which could force companies to reprint their food labels. As of  13thDecember 2014, new regulations set by the FIR will see thousands of businesses having to change the way their labels are structured and what information is printed on them; this can be a huge task for any company, and a costly one too. With these new regulations being implemented, information such as country of origin, type of oil used and caffeine content, to name but a few examples, will all be mandatory and have to be included on food labels. With key information now mandatory, some companies are also faced with having to incorporate evidence of what allergens (if any) are contained, if there is added water, ‘best before’ and ‘use by’ dates with a minimum font size. Industry insiders are advising that companies speak to their label supplier as soon as possible to make the necessary changes before the December deadline. Once food companies have made the relevant changes required by law, LabelsPlus is the company to turn to, to have their labels manufactured. We have been established for 20 years and specialise in supplying quality self adhesive labels.

We currently supply food companies of every size from small independents to blue chip household names, and pride ourselves on excellent customer service.  We can print the food labels you need, in any volume and our team will ensure your labels arrive on time and on budget. LabelsPlus are the most cost effective choice for your self-adhesive labelling needs, we can print your on roll labels either digitally (ideal for smaller volume multi sort runs) or flexographically (ideal for the larger volume runs).
